{{This post was written back in December before Christmas}} I'm still publishing it...
I think I'm getting to be more of a slacker as the days go on. Well, in reality I believe my kids are getting older, they're involved in more and more activities, and I'm really never home. Go figure!
There is so much I want to write about, but I believe some pics and updates are what is most important since the main reason I keep this blog is for family memories.
The older two girls and Mak played soccer this fall. I always enjoy watching them play! It is a fun sport, and I just love seeing the pride on their faces when they know they've done well.
The highlights:
Kenli scored two goals in their last (I think it was their last) game. The whole team looked amazing that game, and Kenli almost scored a few more.
Keira also scored in her last game. She was beaming with pride as were her daddy and I.
By the end of the season, Mak was all over the ball. She always chased after it and fully participated, but she really developed her skills over the course of the six games.
As for dance, Kenli, Keira, and Mak are dancing. All three chose to dance in The Nutcracker this year. This was Keira's third year and Kenli and Mak's first year dancing in in. We sure missed seeing sweet KK in the performance. She danced the previous two years.
Kenli was a mini mouse. She had the part down pat! She was so excited to be one of the two mice that die. Hahaha!
Keira was also a mini mouse, and yes, she also loved being one of the lucky ones that got to die. She was the second mouse to die. She played with her whiskers and was a sneaky little mouse.
Miss Mak was the Mirliton Doll. She popped out from underneath the Christmas tree and did her bobble head dance. She also gave her gift to Clara (a ribbon) in Act II. Here she is trying out for the Nutcracker.
Here are the girls doing their homework during the big rehearsal week.
We rehearsed from September to December--every weekend. It is such a major commitment--even for my tiny people. I was worried after a
few rehearsals that Mak would end up not doing it because she refused to
dance during practice. But after Kenli helped her out once, Mak made up
her mind to do it. What's funny is that the whole time she refused to
do it in class, she was still showing me at home. So even though she
wasn't doing it in class, she still picked up on all the moves and
performed them with 100% accuracy at home.
Also, the week leading up to the big weekend is full of late night rehearsals. By Friday night, the girls start to wear down as we can all feel the end is in sight. This year, being in Cast B afforded us the opportunity to go see Disney on Ice. At the very end of the show, KK threw up all over me. On the way home, Karys got sick. Once we got home they both continued to get sick throughout the night. And then worst of all, Matt and I both got sick. I hate this so much! It is one of the worst things ever!!!
So naturally I worried that this would interfere with our ability to perform in Nutcracker. But by Saturday afternoon, all three dancers still remained complaint-free. So we set off for TPAC at 6:45. Around 9:30 as I'm sitting with friends watching the dancers, I get a text from a dressing room mom informing me that Keira had just thrown up. SUPER!
So I rushed down there, cleaned her up, and we headed for home. She was a "lucky" one who threw up a handful of times real close together, slept really hard until noon Sunday, and woke up fine. So she was able to dance in the 2pm show. I told her not to breathe on anybody.
I was so happy to see these girls dance. Nothing makes me more proud than to see them succeed at whatever it is they're doing.
Gymnastics is a favorite among the older three girls. All of them took it once soccer was over. We are about done with this 9 week session, and I think we'll be taking a break so we can enjoy more family time. But after watching them, I've seen great improvements in Kenli's strength, Keira's cartwheels, and KK's coordination.
KK is also in Girl Scouts. She's a Daisy this year, and they have done some neat activities. She just had her investiture ceremony the middle of last month. She's earned several badges, learned some self-defense, and next week we'll be singing Christmas Carols and delivering handmade cards to some older folks at a local nursing home. This was always something I enjoyed as a kid, and I know KK can brighten some people's days with her sweet smile.
