So, our five month, mini photo shoot proved to be quite the task. Between his growing and learning to do new tricks (grab feet), my attempt (and failure) to improve my camera's settings, and the fact that little dude likes to stick out his tongue...well, suffice it to say that or pictures aren't the greatest of quality. But they are still of my guy, so of course they are worthy!
At five months, I can hardly squeeze him into his 3-6 month clothing. Well, let me be more specific. He is long. His royal chubbyness is nothing to dismiss, but he still has a little wiggle room around. But when I try to slip him into his sleepers, it looks like he will pop the seams right out! So, I had to go buy him some new sleepers. It really is odd to not be passing down clothes to him. I'm so used to having to lug (okay, asking Matt to lug) totes up from the basement every couple of months when I have a baby in the house. But since he's our first and only boy, he is constatnly sending me out to Target, Gymboree, or TRU to buy him some new clothes. I don't mind one bit!
He is in size three diapers. In fact, just tonight, they started looking a little snug to me, too. I even double checked tonight while changing his diaper to make sure I didn't grab a random size two still lying about the house. Nope, it was a snug three.
His skin goes in phases of being slightly blemished to looking like a cat's scratching post (which is most of the time). He has rough patches on his arms, but its his legs that nearly bring me to tears just by looking at them. We've used coconut oil that my friend, Traci, gave me. That certainly keeps him moisturized, but he still scratches. Every time I change his diaper, he goes right to his upper left, outer thigh and just goes to town scratching the heck out of his skin. I can't decide if it's some kind of a "thing" he has to do, or if he legitimately itches. I've also put hydro-cortisone on him, and that took care of most of his issues one time--but not every time. The soy formula hasn't helped any, so since the store was out of it when I was there yesterday, I switched him over to Organic Similac. Not sure this will do anything wonderful for his skin, but at least it's organic. He is still getting breast milk, too. I got mastitis a couple of weeks ago, and ever since then he has refused to nurse. So I pump roughly 25-30 ounces a day. I plan to keep this up as long as humanly possible. It would definetly be a much more complicated task if Matt didn't work from home. So at least we have that fact in our favor.
As far as milestones go, he can sit unsupported for a short period of time, sometimes. Not all the time, though. He can tripod sit as well, but not to the point where I'd feel comfortable to let him hang out like that. I still need to be right there waiting with hands to catch his free-falling little self.
He rolls over some, but not a lot. He can roll both ways, but like I said, not a lot. He starts to get bored or upset before long, so we usually move on to another activity. But he is a belly sleeper, so I know he gets plenty of neck strengthening in.
He has his first little cold. I knew as soon as he stopped nursing that he'd get something. His body is no longer telling my body what antibodies to put into his meals, so he has some snot issues. But that's about it really. Nothing major.
We still haven't given him any "food" yet. I'm in no hurry to start foods when it is completely unnecessary at this point in his life. However, he does seem very into what we are eating. But he's always been very understanding of the fact that he has a mouth. He has always drooled like he is teething. I've never seen so much drool come out of one tiny babe. Anyway, someday soon, I'm sure he'll sneak a couple bites of my avocado--that'll be his first food.
His sleep is getting a little better. Sometime after he hit four months, he started to regress. He'd wake 1-2 times per night, when usually he sleeps 10-12 hours at night. Well, that has now dwindled to once a night. And sometimes, he'll sleep until 6am, so I guess that'd be considered sleeping through the night--but not like he used to.
He's a very happy baby. Just about anybody can make him laugh. He seems to be very aware of the fact that he has 5 sisters. Just the other day when I was trying to capture pictures, he wasn't smiling or having a good time at all. So a couple sisters come in, and first thing upon seeing them he gets the biggest smile across his face. Put me back in front of him, and it's all fuss and tears. Put sister back in front, and he is happy again. What gives?
Daddy and Hunk played peek-a-boo today. It was adorable. Hunk was starting to catch on to how the game is played. It brought tears to my eyes. To think that my little tiny guy will be six month in two weeks just pulls at my heart. He's growing too fast--but I'm just happy he's thriving!
We love you, little Hunk! You are a fun baby who seems to really love his family And I can't wait to see if you turn out to be the cuddle bug I think you'll be. I hope and pray for just enough for you. I hope that as you grow, you'll come to learn what this means.
