Offended

Like most people in the U.S. not from Alaska, I don't know much about Sarah Palin; but what I do know, I don't much care for. Most of the bad feelings I have about her bloomed last night as I watched her deliver her speech at the RNC.

When she claimed that Obama didn't have responsibilities like a mayor does, I laughed at her. Let's just examine one thing a young 22yr old Obama did fresh out of college. He was hired as a community organizer and he was the only one on staff with a $50,000 budget. Fast forward two years and he is working as one of 13 on staff with a budget, oh say somewhere near $700,000. Yep, looks like he had no responsibilities. I believe Palin was competing in pageants in her early 20s. Put that in your book, Palin.

Something else I've come to realize about our young beauty queen is that she seems to believe in her way or the highway. Now, call me crazy, but I like candidates who listen to people and at least take into consideration what they want before deciding on the action to take. You won't find that with Palin. Nope, if she doesn't like you, you are outta here.

I'm still researching and digging up information, but I find one thing very sick and offensive. This woman, as mayor of Podunkville- I mean Wasilla, Alaska, tried to fire the town librarian because she did not support Palin's administration. And by "support Palin's administration" I mean, she wanted the poor librarian canned for fighting back when Palin ordered her to pull possibly offensive material off the shelves. That, my friends, is a big no-no in my book. The librarian was just doing her job by keeping those books on the shelves. Ms. Mayor has no business deciding whether or not I or my child may read a certain book. I believe that is MY decision. I don't know just who she thinks she is. I understand that she wanted the "expert" in this scenario to pull the books- so at least she wasn't trying to do it herself. But seriously, I'm glad that librarian tried to put her in her place. And of course, since she put up a fight, the mayor tried to fire her. Lesson learned- agree with Palin or there will be trouble. Come on people, we don't need someone like that as America's VP. And let's not even get into her abortion beliefs-- oh no wait- let's do.

This psycho is not only against women's rights, but she insists that if a woman is raped or impregnated by a family member, she is to not have the right to an abortion. AHHH!!! I could just verbally beat her for her idiotic ideas.

I don't want a VP who thinks that because something is wrong for her or her family, it must be wrong for the rest of America. Let parents pull books out of their children's hands- don't let the mayor try to tell you what to do on that one. Let women get an education about their options in pregnancy and let the decision be theirs- especially when there is rape or incest involved.
And for God's sake, don't beat down the better candidate just because you have no platform.

Thank you, and God Bless America

Amen, sista! I couldn't agree with you more. I hadn't heard the librarian drama...typical close-minded Republicans trying to tell people what to do! Kudos to the librarian!

What a political year! I love politics and I am really enjoying all the dynamics of this one especially. I think it is amazing to see how one person can wholly enrage an entire group of people. It's also amazing how the two people in this election who irritate us the most--Obama & Palin--are not equal on their tickets. Amazing. I see Obama and I think he looks like an amazing human being. He has a fantastic story! But then he starts talking...and it's gone for me. As a staunch conservative (not necessarily republican, but I will vote that way this year), I do take issue with many things he supports and the direction he intends to take this country in. I was, however, happy to see he and John McCain together yesterday at Ground Zero. It was nice to have a unified day with no nasty ads on TV. Whomever is voted in, I just hope they keep us safe at home.

Wow, Lara, haven't we had some developments since this post of yours!? I'm a sponge for info and watch all the cable news shows during naps and bedtime, including Jon Stewart, which you've got to catch if you need a little comic relief in all of this. It really amazes me how the only news broadcaster that seems a bit off the radar is Fox. Everyone else reports the same news, but Fox focuses on these stories... "what Palin looks like on Newsweek"..."how the states where Obama leads in polling are racked with voter fraud".... made up stories about "Obama's ties to terrorists". They focus on McCain's campaign and give little time to Obama's. It's so slanted, I'm embarrassed for them.
Anyway, I just had to share with you that I agree with your points. I've always thought that the VP choice should be the person that the people choose as the 2nd best candidate to lead. I definitely could not choose someone to be a 72 year-old heart's beat away from that office if they cannot name a single newspaper they read, if said person believes the cornerstone of their own foreign policy experience is that they can see the country in question; if the candidate charged victims for rape kits in the city where she was mayor; as well as being found guilty- not of firing a commissioner- but for the unethical pressuring of him to fire someone else because of a personal vendetta and then out and out lying about it to the media (she said she was completely cleared of any illegal or hint of unethical activity- did she even READ the report?!) oh, and let's not forget the whole sequestering her from any interviews or camera time because she completely screws the McCain campaign every time she opens her mouth. We have a right as Americans to "Palin-cram" before the vote since they waited until the last minute to roll her out when none of us have ever heard of her! They're just trying to run out the clock. I also have a real problem with her views on teaching abstinence when she was pregnant before she had her shotgun wedding (she romantically calls it "eloping") and her daughter is following this example at the same age. So how's that educational stance working? Much better for those kids to bring a baby into a less than ideal situation where two kids, babies themselves, have been pressured into marrying for the rest of their lives, right? And I have REAL issues with her being in Texas to give a speech in her final weeks of her 5th AND high risk pregnancy, where her water broke and she still gave the speech and then, without telling anyone on the crew, boarded the plane for an 8 hour trip home followed by another hour drive to the hospital of her choice. I'm sorry, but I sincerely have doubts about her judgment after hearing this story. Why she ever left Alaska is beyond me. I understand ambition in a man's world, but not at the risk of your child's life, its crazy.
She's done a very good job of setting the idea of "a woman in power" back a few decades. Its like watching Bush but in drag. I feel like she has discredited all of us women as fumbling ignorant hockey-moms. Say what you will about Hilary, but there is no way in h#ll she would have given the world that impression of American women. I'd pay to see that debate!
But alas, the deeper they dig, the higher Obama seems to rise. Looking forward to November! ...and thanks for letting me vent ; )
